The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), in recognition of the need
for a more holistic, strategic approach to planning has developed its
Subregional Planning Initiative (SPI) that is intended to help achieve
regional and community goals through the integration of transportation
and land use planning and its incorporation into local plans, projects,
and development strategies. This initiative, which will focus on areas
selected through an application process, will provide an in-depth
examination of the subregional area, identifying the goals and
priorities of the communities, assessment of existing conditions, and
the development of recommendations and implementation strategies to
achieve the goals and priorities.
The resulting plans will have a focus on the integration of
transportation and land use, the provision of multimodal transportation
choices and how different growth and development patterns affect the
future of the region and quality of life for its residents.
